Nitter is back to let you see X posts without logging in.

After going offline in August because of “cease and desist letters” sent by X, the website for the open source project has an update dated September 7th saying that “Following legal advice, the Nitter project will continue.” XCancel, which uses Nitter, is also back.

It reads: “Cease and desist – UPDATE Sep 7th On 24 August 2026 cease and desist letters were sent by X Corp. demanding a permanent takedown of Nitter instances and the project’s repository. Following legal advice, the Nitter project will continue. This instance and others will be back up and running shortly. An announcement will be made within a week, once we’re able to reveal more information. OLD NOTE nitter.net is offline and development has stopped for the time being. I’m seeking legal advice and won’t be commenting further on the specifics for now. Thank you to everyone who used, hosted, packaged, donated and contributed to Nitter over the past seven years.”
