The Verge’s gaming section brings the latest video game news, reviews of the most exciting releases, and interviews with the industry’s biggest names. We cover everything from PlayStation and Xbox blockbusters, to quirky Nintendo games, to the cool indie gems on PC and Android that you might otherwise miss.
The preview is scheduled to debut on Netflix at 3PM ET, though creators can stream it as long as they talk over it. Starting at 9PM ET, you’ll be able to watch the preview on YouTube and the GTA VI website.
My colleague Andrew Webster wrote that this weekend, and I’ve been thinking about it today in the leadup to the today’s 26-minute “extended look” at the game. Skipping discs? Warping the video game release calendar? Massive leaks? A Netflix special — that creators can livestream? All part of the GTA VI saga.
The $899.99 console went on sale at 10AM ET and was out of stock right after, and eBay’s sold listings show that people are paying more than $2,000 to buy confirmed preorders, Polygon reports. The console looks cool, but I wouldn’t say it’s $2,000 cool.
Last night, Rockstar shared these streaming guidelines ahead of today’s GTA VI “extended look”:
Quick clarification: you are free to livestream An Extended Look from 3 p.m. ET on August 27 providing you adhere to platform-specific guidance and you do not simply restream or repost the unedited video in full without context or commentary.
As part of $3.99 DLC for Scott Pilgrim EX, you can now play as Stephen Stills, Kim Pine and Knives Chau. The game, which launched in March, is also getting a free update that adds an arcade mode.

The Miamian obtained a Rockstar pitch deck through a public records request that proposes Vice City-themed takeovers of places like Miami’s airport, Metrorail stations, and some public areas.
A spokesperson for Miami-Dade’s mayor confirmed to The Miamian that there had been conversations but said “Nothing has been formally agreed to or approved.”
The “extended look” coming to Netflix and YouTube will be 26 minutes long and feature gameplay captured on the PlayStation 5, according to Netflix. The preview will first appear on Netflix at 3PM ET before arriving on YouTube at 9PM ET.

I’m in San Francisco for the Pokémon World Championships, and the Pokémon Center store here has a huge Lego display. I wasn’t sure how I felt about these when they were announced, but seeing Lego Squirtle in person made me want the set. Look at that burger!

The studio is reworking Splitgate: Arena Reloaded and Empulse to support peer-to-peer multiplayer but will no longer be providing dedicated servers, according to a message from cofounders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian. (Proulx wore a hat that read “Make FPS Great Again” at 2025’s Summer Game Fest, which he apologized for.)
The cofounders also note that “our focus is changing” and that “What we build next may look very different from what people expect from 1047 Games.”
“It just felt like the fair thing to do,” Panic says in an email shared on Reddit. The exact refund amount seems to vary; the email screenshot shows a refund of $12.36, while a couple other Reddit users mentioned refunds of about $23.
I dig just about everything in the new 18-minute video demo that you can watch on YouTube. (I can’t embed it because it’s age-gated.) The whole vibe is way more interesting to me than yet another grimdark fantasy.
Fable launches on February 23rd, 2027.
November 19th will also be the launch date for Volvy’s Adventure: Reslimed, a new retro-styled platformer that stars Devolver’s weird mascot. And both GTA VI and Volvy’s Adventure will be going up against November 19th’s launch of The Binding of Isaac: Repentance + Online on consoles that same day. Big day.
You’ll have to wait until tomorrow to preorder the $899.99 translucent green Xbox Series X (unless you received an early invitation from Microsoft), but you can preorder the matching controller now for $79.99. The device will begin shipping on October 20th.
At about the same time Rockstar Games released a statement about leaked Grand Theft Auto VI videos, saying they’re “heartbreaking for our team,” another clip appeared on the internet from the source of the leaks, although it may have been posted before Rockstar’s statement. In this one, while what sounds like a Bad Bunny song plays in the background, the Jason character carjacks a vehicle with a “Rideout Customs” logo across the back window and attempts to evade the police, before the other main character, Lucia, appears briefly in a cutscene.
The leakers responded to comments about their bad driving in a caption, but didn’t say anything specific about Rockstar’s statement.
After teasing them back in March, Lego has now officially unveiled its first Mario-themed collection to come with character minifigures. There are eight sets launching on January 1st, 2027, which start from $9.99 and are suitable for children aged four or older. Click through the images below for the full price details.
Following in the footsteps of some other successful indie developers, thatgamecompany has announced its own publishing arm, thatgamepublisher. No titles have been announced yet, but the studio says thatgamepublisher will be dedicated to supporting “emotionally ambitious games.”

It’s up for preorder for $377, shipping 2027, bundled with an exclusive “Arasaka” cartridge with an original demo from C64 demoscene group Arise and a chiptune OST from LukHash.
In a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Square Enix showed off footage of the gargantuan Ruby, Emerald, and Ultima Weapons. The game is set to launch in spring 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X / S.
Daniel Mullins’ bizarre-looking (complimentary) Pony Island 2: Panda Circus launches on April 27th, 2027. That gives you plenty of time to catch up on the original Pony Island.
The dungeon crawler launched in early access in December 2024, and the 1.0 version is nearly here. When 1.0 hits, the game will go free to play.
Lego Skylines is a new city builder from Cities: Skylines publisher Paradox Interactive, and it seems like it’s got a good mix of traditional city management and that signature Lego whimsy. This is one we at The Verge will be very excited to check out.
Sega just showed off multiplayer for its Crazy Taxi reboot in a new trailer. It sure looks like Crazy Taxi — which isn’t a bad thing, IMO. The game is set to launch in 2027.
The cat-themed strategy roguelike hits consoles on September 8th. It launched on PC earlier this year, and I highly recommend reading our interview with developer Edmund McMillen.
Opening Night Live also featured a musical performance of a song from the game. It ruled.
Ukraine-based 4A Games showed off a short, gritty gameplay trailer for Metro 2039, its latest first-person shooter in the long-running series. It’ll debut February 2027 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The trailer is age-gated, so you’ll have to click here to view it.
The Doggfather comes to Hitman: World of Assassination. Noted gamer Snoop Dogg is hitting ’em in more ways than one as the next celebrity elusive target in “The Herbalist,” which you can play for free starting August 27th.
Unlike Baldur’s Gate 3, Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is a more action-focused title — as shown in a new trailer, it appears to take inspiration from games like Jedi: Fallen Order and Control. It’s launching in 2027.
PUBG: Ded.Net is a new multiplayer FPS with roguelite progression… and also a very in-your-face vibe. I love PUBG, but this announcement trailer was a lot to take in. We’ll see if it’s as satisfying to play Ded.Net as it was to get a chicken dinner back in the day.
