In 2019, When Matter picked Zigbee over Z-Wave, the proprietary protocol picked itself up, brushed off its hurt, and set about reinventing itself.
With today’s launch of the Z-Wave Source Code Project, developers and manufacturers can now help build the protocol, and any chipmaker can build the silicon.
Is this Z-Wave’s last gasp at relevancy in the face of the juggernaut that is Matter — or a canny move to become the connective tissue between smart home past and smart home future?
